Choosing and creating wealth, love and success

Updated: Jun 28, 2020

“The real measure of your wealth is how much you’d be worth if you lost all your money.” - Anonymous

Today let us talk about ‘wealth’. Humanity strives to achieve it, yet it is such a vastly misunderstood topic.

The dictionary defines wealth as

“the abundance of valuable financial assets or physical possessions which can be converted into a form that can be used for transactions.”

Before we explore my personal views on the definition of wealth, I would like to start with a short story. A story about a women and three old men.

“There was a family of three that lived happily in a small house. One day, as the woman who lived there was out and about, she noticed three very old men with long white beards sitting on the side of the road. Sensing they needed care, she invited them back to her home.

When they arrived, her husband was curious about what was going on. “Who are these men?” he asked her. “What are their names?”

When the woman inquired, they shared that their names were “Wealth”, “Success” and “Love”.

Her husband agreed that they should welcome the old men into their home and tend to them.

The men explained that only one of the three would be allowed to enter, and that the family had to decide which one to invite.” Before you continue reading, I urge you to take a minute to reflect on the narrative so far...

Who would you invite into your home and why?

To continue with our little story: “The husband and wife talked it over. He felt they should invite Wealth, while she was leaning more toward inviting Success. From beyond the room, they heard the voice of their young daughter. Oh Mother and Father, invite Love, for how nice it would be to have our home filled with Love!

The husband and wife looked at each other and decided to trust in the wisdom of their daughter. They turned to Love and said, we have decided that you should come into our house.

Upon hearing his answer, all three men began to applaud and cheer. The family was confused. Love explained, “If you would have chosen Wealth or Success, only the one you invited would have been allowed to enter. But since you chose Love, all three of us can come in.”

“Where Love goes, success and wealth follow.”

Let’s assume for a minute that the short story was true. What would that mean for us and how would our life change if “Love” is always the first we invite in?

While love represents “the unselfish, loyal and benevolent concern for the good of another.”, we have seen many who have chosen otherwise.

How many people do we know who are successful, people who have reached ultimate success in their financial and career ambitions, but are deeply depressed and unhappy at the same time.

To summarize, love is our intrinsic motivation that guides our actions out of a genuine concern for the good of others, success is equivalent to the achievement of ones ambitions and goals and wealth represents the accumulation of physical or financial assets.

Let’s imagine for a moment, a world, in which our ambitions and goals are guided out of a genuine concern for the good of others, in which we would design products and services that would be designed to improve the lives of not only our customers, but our employees, shareholders, our partners and vendors our communities including our environment.

A world in which we would consume products and services with a genuine concern not only to ourselves but to our environment and communities alike.

A world, in which employees would be truly passionate about advancing the cause of the organization as they can see, how the corporate ambition allows them to maximize the impact they want to have onto the world.

A world in which government policies would amplify the impact of such organizations and establish platforms in which everyone can thrive.

Such a world would create wealth, not only for ourselves, but for everyone.

Wealth, not limited to the abundance of financial and physical assets but defined by:

  1. LOVE: As the guiding principle of everything we do. Being able to give and receive love.

  2. IMPACT: Being able to solve problems at scale.

  3. PASSION: Being able to do what we love.

While such a world sounds to good to be true, the change starts within us.

Are we inviting love first in everything we do? Kindness multiplies exponentially.

Commit today to a mindset of love to embark onto the road of true wealth creation.

“Where Love goes, success and wealth follow.”
